Portraits of Resilience: A Family's Heartfelt Photo Session

Recently, I had the honor of photographing a remarkable family. The husband is battling stage 4 cancer, his third fight with this challenging illness. His wife reached out to me because she wanted to capture precious moments with him and their two sons while he is still feeling well.

This family’s strength and resilience were evident throughout our session. The boys were charming, bringing smiles and light to the day. Despite the difficult circumstances, their bond and love for each other shone through in every photo. They were relaxed and so easy-going. They let me straight into their family. What an honour.

Parents always want the best for their kids, striving to give them love, support, and happiness despite the busyness of life. While balancing work, responsibilities, and daily tasks, finding quality time to spend with their children can be challenging. For this Dad, it's going through 6 months of gruelling chemo to give him more time. He's had many surgeries, parts of his body removed and he still fights. And his loving wife is right there with him.

It’s important to cherish and fully enjoy the precious moments we do get. We often assume we have all the time in the world with our kids, but for some families, that’s not the reality. Embracing and savoring these moments becomes even more crucial, creating lasting memories that hold deep meaning and value.

The father in this amazing family shows incredible dedication and strength. Despite his illness, he always makes an effort to be there for his sons, no matter how he's feeling. During our session, I was struck by how commited he was to making this special for his sons. And from what I know of them, it wasn't just for this session. Through the years of battle, they haven't let it affect the boys. They've been gently protected and where negativity could live and breed, they chose light. It was inspiring and put things into sharp perspective for me.

It was a privilege to be a part of creating these lasting memories for them. Their courage and the way they support each other is truly inspiring. I am grateful forever grateful. I can't say it enough. This one will stay with me for a long time to come. X
